Oscar Nominations 2019: Winner Predictions

Source

The Oscars are sneaking up on us once again and for the first time in a while, I have mixed feelings about this year's award show. A few of the films floating around this award season ie. Green Book, A Star is Born, Bohemian Rhapsody have had their fair share of (warranted) controversy. Then we have the whole host, or lack thereof issues. And ! this year' nods have also seen some big snubs. Don't even get me started on Saoirse Ronan not appearing on the Best Actress list this year ... but also, what does Timothee Chalamet have to do now to get a nomination?! Remember the hype around his performance in Call Me By Your Name last year? But he gave us SO MUCH MORE in Beautiful Boy?! Anyway , I'm sure I'll get over it.

In the meantime, here are my personal favourites but also predictions for the win. If I've missed out a 'Should Win' option, its because I still haven't seen enough of the films within the category and, my 'Will Win' is just going off of how the films have performed during the awards season so far. Do leave a comment letting me know your verdict too !

Best Picture:
“Black Panther”
“BlacKkKlansman”
“Bohemian Rhapsody”
“The Favourite”
“Green Book”
“Roma”
“A Star Is Born”
“Vice”

Should Win: Black Panther
For its sheer ambition, message, ground-breaking themes within the genre
Will Win: Roma

Lead Actor:
Christian Bale, “Vice”
Bradley Cooper, “A Star Is Born”
Willem Dafoe, “At Eternity’s Gate”
Rami Malek, “Bohemian Rhapsody”

This has been the most difficult category to predict, mainly because Vice isn't out yet and I wasn't particularly overwhelmed the other performances. So basing this entirely on previous nods and win from the other awards shows this season ...
